"In situations where a raft foundation alone does not satisfy the design requirements, it

useful tool for preliminary design of piled raft foundations. It involves two phases:( ^) b! t2 D, {' ?1 T: Z" w
1. The assessment of the overall foundation behavior;" X0 x7 r {7 T. C: k
2. The assessment of the behavior under individual column loads.( L3 Q3 H( j* F) B2 e1 A2 n
In both cases, use is made of simplified solutions to compute foundation stiffness
. |( H6 o( L' i. |( Nand capacity characteristics. The selection of design geotechnical parameters is an

Typical applications to a case history of a piled raft and to model centrifuge tests9 }. S( p6 J4 D* J
are described, and it is found that the behavior predicted by the simplified analysis is
