of a limited number of piles, strategically located, may improve both the ultimate load

paper outlines the development of a simplified method of analysis which can provide a
3 ]% `) ^: J6 U* Yuseful tool for preliminary design of piled raft foundations. It involves two phases:
/ Y0 M2 _4 c) N! h, k( ?7 p1. The assessment of the overall foundation behavior;1 N7 W$ L; U$ B! Q$ _
2. The assessment of the behavior under individual column loads.* w% V* t& `! ~/ V5 ^
In both cases, use is made of simplified solutions to compute foundation stiffness
1 x6 @0 H3 N6 u' g/ O9 \and capacity characteristics. The selection of design geotechnical parameters is an- G- s) F# V1 d8 U% m, r% h2 i
essential component of both design stages, and some approximations for estimating the9 n5 y; h1 E% u6 w% Z# ~5 Y1 C

Typical applications to a case history of a piled raft and to model centrifuge tests
